This 13th August, we’re heading to Dayara Bugyal & Raithal for one of the Himalayas’ most unique cultural celebrations. Think vibrant folk music, traditional dances, endless meadows, and yes… a little butter fun too. 😉

A detailed 5-day itinerary starting from Dehradun covers the drive to base village Raithal, the trek to the high-altitude meadows, festival celebrations, and return.

Day 1: Dehradun to Raithal VillageTravel: Drive ~200 km from Dehradun via Mussoorie and Uttarkashi to Raithal village (approx. 7–8 hours).

Activity: Arrive, check into a local homestay, and rest. Explore the traditional slate-roofed Garhwali houses and get acclimatized.Stay: Raithal homestay.

Day 2: Raithal to Gui Campsite / Dayara BugyalTrek: Begin your trek from Raithal village through dense oak and rhododendron forests toward Gui (~4 km) or push straight up to the lower ridges of Dayara Bugyal.

Activity: Enjoy the gradual uphill walk with occasional mountain vistas. Reach the campsite by afternoon.Stay: Tents/Camps at Gui or Dayara Bugyal.

Day 3: Dayara Bugyal (The Butter Festival - Anduddi)Festival Event (August 17): Wake up early for morning prayers and traditional local rituals dedicated to nature and local deities.Celebration: From 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, join the grand celebration where locals and travelers play a joyful "Holi" using fresh butter, milk, curd, and buttermilk instead of colors.Culture: Watch local dwellers dance to traditional Dhol-Damau beats and perform the energetic Raso folk dance. Enjoy panoramic views of high Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch.Stay: Camp overnight at Dayara Bugyal or trek back down to Gui.

Day 4: Dayara Bugyal to Raithal & Drive to UttarkashiTrek/Drive: Trek back down from Dayara Bugyal to Raithal village. Board a vehicle for a short drive to Uttarkashi.Activity: Visit the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi and relax by the Bhagirathi River.Stay: Hotel or guesthouse in Uttarkashi.
